[ CHARACTER INFORMATION ]
Name: Viede
Age: Appears to be in his mid-twenties though in actuality is somewhere in his 60s as a demon and a bit younger than Aion and Chrno, who are around 85. [No canon age stated]
Gender: Male
Fandom: Chrono Crusade (Manga version)
Timeline: Volume 6, after Pandaemonium’s attack and before Chrno’s betrayal. [Estimated to be set around 1870.]
History: The main setting of Chrno Crusade takes place in the US during the 1920s. Viede is one of the six original sinners, who managed to flee Pandemonium during their rebellion against their homeland, Pandaemonium. This was after finding out their generation of demons were to be exterminated for being born under Lilith, Core Brain Emulator of Pandemonium’s system. Him along with four other demons, followed their designated leader, Aion, in a rebellion against the society in attempt to gain their ‘freedom’. Aion spoke of the corruption within the society and lead them on, managing to behead a terminal core of the system so it can be used to find Pandemonium’s weakness and destroy the whole society. They soon became known as traitors; thus called the 'sinners'.
During their escape from Pandemonium, the sinners end up losing the stolen head somewhere in the Grand Canyon region. Viede agreed to seek the help of a Holy Saint, Mary Magdalene-a foreseer- who Aion orders Chrno to go kidnap from under the protection of the Magdala Order to find the head in haste. She willingly cooperates with the Sinners despite foreseeing her own death and wanting to get to know her supposed murderer, Chrno, eventually growing close to each one during her stay with them. Viede along with Genai, Aion, and Chrno accompanied the Saint to finally retrieve the lost head. After months of extensive research is done on the head aboard their own base, Eden, the Sinners including Mary celebrated their breakthrough that night which ended tragic.
The terminal core of Pandemonium's head had begun to regenerate during that time, which allowed her to move and free herself from the test tube she was contained in. She went on a rampage, severely injuring two of the Sinners. Viede did his best to try and keep the queen at bay as well as physically strike it, however, her barrier ended up injuring his arm and fist due to the impact. It wasn’t long before she emitted a sonic wave that tried to take control of the sinners via Geas. Mary was able to contain it with her powers, allowing Aion and Chrno to take it out. However, later they find out that Pandemonium had instead slipped into Mary's body for survival during that battle which ends with Aion ordering Chrno to take off her head to regain the precious information lost. It is hard to say whether the other sinners were informed of what Aion was planning at this time after he noticed the queen within Mary. However, taking it from his response to Shader after he confronted Mary, saying there’s nothing wrong, I believe it’s safe to assume that Viede and the rest were also not informed of this decision and was only recovering from his own injury at the time. Chrno refuses to follow his orders and ends up losing his horns to Aion--something needed to draw the astral powers to regenerate. They escape from Eden by falling off of it and Chrno managed to stay alive with Mary’s help by forming a contract which involves her sharing her life energy with him. But it wasn't long before Aion finds them and kills Mary in the process before she becomes the next Pandemonium. By this time I believe the other sinners were informed of Aion’s plan to go after the two escapees and Viede decided to stay behind to protect Genai and Rizel during their recovery while Shader and Aion went off to finish the deed.
This is all that is needed to be known for Viede since I will be taking him from this timeline in vol 6.
Character Personality:
Despite his rather large stature, Viede is very intelligent and is often very composed. He is considered a gentleman (in the Official guidebook) and has the ability to judge and rationalize things with a level head. A natural introvert, he is very observant and often comprehends what others are thinking and speaks out only when necessary. He even gives Aion advices at times and is entrusted with many things. In the past, he’s well known for enjoying his quiet moments of reading his books and on occasion playing chess. Viede mainly prefers to deal things civilly, such as when he was ordered to go get Azmaria. Instead of fighting Satella who was protecting her at the time, he simply asked them to follow to where Aion was, using force as a last resort. He’s rather neutral with everything. Viede is not the type to go out of his way to make someone’s life a living hell but he doesn’t play the knight in shining armor either. He’s grateful when someone does something for him but really isn’t the type to do something in return unless there was a purpose behind it such as something that would benefit their goal or Aion. Viede takes his work very seriously and remains focused on any task given to him.
One characteristic that highlights Viede is that he’s very loyal to Aion as the author, Moriyama Daisuke, puts it. He often calls him his lord, king or boss and respects him for what he does and what he believes in. One of the reasons for this is because Aion in return respects his opinions as well that he feels comfortable telling him how something is. He would throw his life on the line to act as a decoy for him or to be one of his soldiers in order to carry out their dream (which is to gain freedom and rebirth the world). He could be rather selfless, placing Aion’s plans ahead of his own health-- such as when he was still recovering from his fight with Chrno and he willingly said not to worry about him and to carry out what they had planned to do (which was to place Viede on the frontline along with Genai to hold off the pursuers while the apostles performed the Hymn to make an assault on Pandaemonium). He would gladly act out on his behalf without a single complaint. For example, there was a time when Viede and Genai were ordered to drive out to Denver to scout and collect human bodies to act as their contractors once their horns (the source that keeps demons alive) are removed and to be created into jewels by Fiore, who is a jewel summoner. Not long after, they were ordered to drive back in one day to commence another plan that had to be done quickly (which was to collect the last apostle, Azmaria) and while Genai complained the whole way through, Viede told him to shut up and kept driving. His rational mentality often puts him on the same wavelength as Aion, such as how cold he could become. Rizel (one of the original sinners who fled Pandaemonium)’s death is an example of this, where he claimed her death to be of her own fault for fooling around too much by playing mental games instead of getting the job done.
However, due to how reserved he is and not sharing his feelings to anyone in particular, I believe Viede has a tendency to let things build up inside until he finally snaps. For the longest time after Chrno’s betrayal, (despite it not being mentioned in the book) from their interaction in vol 5 during his fight with Chrno speaks loudly for itself. At this point, Viede knew that nothing anyone says would get through to a berserk-state Chrno (He also mentions this to Azmaria in the book). And yet, he still spoke out to him and allowed all of his emotions to escape at once of asking him why he was on the human side when he has such strength, to quit interfering with Aion’s plans and also that he would never forgive him even if Aion does. Even so, when he sees Chrno again in the last vol of the series, he was capable of speaking to him in a composed manner without simply lashing out at him and was able to keep on task with relaying Aion’s message. He often keeps his emotions well hidden with an occasional frustration that seeps out when something is annoying him, such as Genai complaining about their drive from Denver. Because of this rather flexible mannerism, I think he wouldn’t have that much problem finding and getting along with a partner in-game, especially if they have a common goal, which in this case would be to return home.
Character Abilities:
Just like the other sinners, his power is activated by controlling the legions of his body, which has a connection to the astral line. His horns acts as an antenna like thing to attract its power, allowing him to change into his demonic form. However, due to the heavy influence of Pandemonium, it had to be removed and replaced with Shader’s invention in order to avoid being controlled by Pandemonium. In his demonic form, he has the ability to regenerate any wounds inflicted by anyone other than a direct hit from Pandemonium, which deadens the legion cells needed to do so. Having gone through battle training ever since they were young, the demons in general have enhanced senses, speed, and technique (such as jumping vast heights) along with the capability to fly. The sinners are also ranked on the higher end of the hierarchy, which means they are more skilled than the average demon. His offensive attack consists of shooting multiple bullets from the holes located around his arms and legs with the capability to follow his target and holds enough destructive power behind it to destroy a single town. He is one of the vital driving forces behind Aion’s army and delegates tasks and takes minor charge in their operations.
Character Weaknesses:
His physical weakness is something that would apply to all demons from Pandaemonium. The horns of a demon play an important role in survival. Without them, they are unable to channel and feed off of the astral line’s power to stay alive. However, due to their horns, they are in contact with the Queen Core at all times. Pandaemonium has the ability to place any demon within range into submission via a sonar wave called a Geas that she emits through a cry. The sound resonates with the horns causing them to hear something equivalent to a high pitched sound that is painful enough to paralyze them and even bleed out from their eyes. The blade she forms from her own body to attack her enemies also has an ability to deaden any legions that come in contact with it, thus when she cut through Rizel’s mid-section or Genai’s eyes or arm, they were unable to regenerate that part of their body. The concept that all demons are weak to holy items such as holy water, bullets, etc apply here as well.
Despite the lack of information on this character, from a psychological stand point, there are certain things that can be drawn from the way he behaves. His personality could be considered a double-edged sword. His rather reserved and introverted nature can be considered one of his weaknesses. He's not very good at sharing his emotions with anyone (even with his fellow sinners to an extent) and may have trouble initially connecting with some of the other characters in-game because of this. Speaking to him would almost be like speaking to a robot in a way unless it’s with one of the sinners, who he has had a history with. His stubbornness and lone wolf side may come out if Aion is not present to give orders as he will take charge and do as he pleases to find the solution that he thinks is right. His strong determination (almost to the brink of obsession) that he has with Aion and desire to accomplish this long awaited goal can both be considered a weakness as well.
As a note, this would not apply from the timeline I will be taking him from. However, he has a certain weakness to Chrno of feeling perhaps inferior to him in a way. He doesn’t understand why a demon with such great powers would put everything they worked so hard and long for to waste. The incident and also his specific line of how he would never forgive Chrno during the fight with him for interfering with their goal, tells the reader that he does hold grudges. He too can have a short temper when pushed to the limits, but again, it was only displayed in a major way with his interaction with Chrno and on occasion with Genai to be quiet and stop complaining while he’s driving. Otherwise, he has been very composed even during his final minutes.
[ SOUL CAMPAIGN SECTION ]
What are the abilities that your character will retain in Soul Campaign?
While in S_C, he will retain all the abilities that he would have in his human form, which would be the following abilities:
- To have enhanced senses (much similar to those trained in the military)
-Anything he’s physically learned in techniques like hand to hand combat, etc
-Jump high (though I understand that this will be limited and “powered-down” due to being in S_C)
-He will also have the ability to regenerate his cells, however, at a much slower rate than if he were to be in his demon form. At most, he’ll be able to heal fast for an average human.
What are the weaknesses that your character will lose or gain in Soul Campaign?
-The weakness he would lose is the Chrno factor since he will be pulled from a time before the betrayal.
-A weakness that he may gain is frustration and annoyance depending on who he interacts with and not being able to return to his world to accomplish their goal.
Viede has been able to adapt fairly well to Earth from Pandaemonium and so being introduced to yet another world I don’t think would rattle him much as it would confuse and place him on guard at first until he knows what needs to be done to return home.
[ MEISTER ONLY SECTION ]
Why your character should be a Meister:
I believe that Viede would be suitable to become a Meister due to his well composed nature and ability to take the reins when need be. As a trained soldier, he is capable of using a gun considering it was a part of him and also has knowledge of using a sword of sorts, such as the one he used to escape Pandaemonium. Throughout the series, he has been the medium figure in making certain everything was in order and things ran smoothly. When Aion wasn’t the one putting people in their place or delegating tasks, he was the second figure to do so. He’s capable of getting along and working with anyone as long as he agrees to the purpose or reason behind working together.
Meister Ability:
Soul Determination - They are able to take a mortal blow once and withstand it. While it does not heal them, they are given the strength to continue on in battle.

First Person:
[Voice:]
[After listening to spirits and watching the tutorial for the device, he sets it to audio, trusting in his fellow sinners to recognize his voice while being cautious of overexposing himself to an unknown population.]
I’ve yet to believe all that has been explained. However, I am in search of those of my world, Earth. If you wish to talk, contact me here.
Third Person:
What a mess this has all become. One minute they were celebrating for their freedom and the next that hope torn right out of their hands. Viede entered and closed the door to his room after returning from checking on his injured comrades and speaking with Aion and Shader about what may have gone wrong. He carefully took a seat on his bed and hunched over while rubbing his aching neck. A heavy sigh escaped him. He couldn’t stop thinking about the incident that had recently occurred. Genai and Rizel in critical condition and Mary unconscious. The Pandaemonium head that they had worked so hard to obtain now in ruins, he could imagine what Aion must be thinking. Everything was back to square one. The only source that was going to help them discover their enemy’s weakness was lost now. The thought sat heavy with him but at least they were all still alive unlike the others. Viede glanced down at his wrapped right arm that had been injured during his assault, slightly moving his fingers to see how well it was healing. Seemed luck was on his side that nothing was permanently damaged. The boss couldn’t afford to lose anymore men. For now, it was best to get his rest and speak to the others later on what needs to be done next. Knowing Shader, she would be able to recover at least some of the information and Aion. Well, he had a mind of his own, but one that worked wonders. He was certain that he would come up with something.
Lying down, Viede continued to give it more thought in attempt to come up with something on his own when he drifted to sleep. His mind taking him on a weird rollercoaster, it wasn’t long before he saw a bright light--one enough to make him abruptly re-open his eyes a few hours later. He quickly sat up to his surprise as he found himself in a pitch dark room and on the floor no less. Slowly getting up and scanning the area, he lightly murmured in confusion. “What the hell is going on?” He couldn’t sense the others around through the horns he still had and clenched his teeth as he tried once more. Was he no longer on Eden? Have the pursuers managed to catch them? No, that was impossible. If that were the case, he wouldn’t be alive right now. They were ordered to be exterminated on sight after all. The sudden realization that he couldn’t turn into his demon form either placed him on more alert. He had to find out just where he was and what was going on. Confused and wary of his new surrounding, he decided to wander a bit to find anything recognizable when he quickly shielded his eyes to the unexpected light. Greeted with three large screens turning on, it displayed a red-haired unknown man. Viede immediately took guard as the man began to explain everything while he had no other choice but to carefully listen. He had a really bad feeling about this one and what the future had in store for him.
[ NOTES ]
Viede will be in his human form while in S_C and the timeline I am playing him from will unfortunately reveal spoilers.
